Sofia Trevino holds a law degree from ITAM and an LLM from Yale Law School, where she is also a JSD candidate. She specializes in civil and constitutional law, with a primary research focus on private law and family law reform.

She served as a doctoral researcher at the Legal Research Institute of UNAM and is currently a full-time visiting professor and postdoctoral researcher at ITAM. Alongside her academic career, she held various positions at the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice—including Court Clerk (Secretaria de Estudio y Cuenta) and Chambers Coordinator (Coordinadora de Ponencia)—and has coordinated and taught programs at the Federal School of Judicial Training.

Among her publications are “Social Parenthood in Mexico,” in Social Parenthood in Comparative Perspective (NYU Press, 2023); Curso de Derecho y Familia as co-editor (Tirant lo Blanch, 2022); and “Gender and Constitutionalism in Mexico” (co-authored with Francisca Pou Giménez), in Gender Constitutionalism in Latin America (Routledge, 2024). In 2027, she will publish “Between Diversity and Care” in The Oxford Handbook on Families and the Law (Oxford University Press).
