Carlos Hurtado

Visiting professor

Carlos Hurtado is a Mexican economist with ample experience in public service, teaching and international organizations.  His background in Mexico includes much work on economic policy in the public sector, both in macroeconomics and public finance and in sector issues.  He has taught economic courses for many years at ITAM, where he was professor and director of the research centre in the 80s. He later held several posts in the public sector, including director general of economic policy, ambassador of Mexico at the OECD, chief economic advisor of President Zedillo and undersecretary of finance (Hacienda) for the budget, among others.  He was also vice president and general manager at the Inter American Development Bank and executive director for Mexico and seven other countries at the IMF.  He was director general of the Centro de Estudios Económicos del Sector Privado in Mexico City.  Today he is a professor of economics at ITAM.  He holds a BA in economics degree from ITAM and a Ph. D. in economics from the University of Chicago.
